Bedwetting in children and teens

Do you still wet your bed??? Look guys! he /she is still urinating in their bed. "Urinator" is a silly name given to them by their friends and family members. A Child is good in studies ,active in  sports. Still he/she have to face humiliation due to their bedwetting problem.
We have heard people having sleepwalking, night terror,  and bedwetting . What is the reality  or truth behind it? Now, let's discuss why some children experience  bedwetting .
Medically bedwetting is called nocturnal enuresis defined as "Urinary incontenance more than equal to 2 times per week for more than equal to 3 months in a person more than 5 years old".

Sleep cycle has 2 stages :
Non-REM Sleep and REM Sleep (Rapid Eye Movement Sleep ie. sleep with dreams )

Non-REM or Dreamless Sleep has 3 parts.
1. N1= superficial sleep.
2. N2= Deeper sleep where bruxism or tooth grinding occurs.
3. N3= Deepest sleep, where bedwetting, Night terror, sleepwalking occurs.
So bed wetting occurs in a typical N3 stage of deepest  Non- REM sleep.

A child become toilet trained from 2 to 4 years of age. Some children still not able to make themselves dry during night . Those children need special care and attention from their family members. Family is the first school of a child. If he/she get special care and attention from their family member even it can be resolve in few years.
First of all bed wetting  is not under the voluntary  control . Every child thinks that he/she is urinating in their dream. But in real they are urinating in bed. Some child experience  good feeling  during bedwetting time. But that good feeling doesn’t long last. After some hour of urination ,bed and cloth start to smell. Even child get frustrated for their action.

Now following are the method to prevent a child from bed wetting.

1.Emotional support from family (Don't disclose their matter to their friends or relatives).
2. Child should be focused to drink water during morning  and afternoon time (:Reduction  of water intake in evening  time).
3. Alarm system: Parents should set alarm in clock or in mobile phone in every 1.5-3  hours during bedtime to wake their child for emptying their bladder.
4. Reinforce your child (:By saying that they can get rid off from any problem)
5. If above measure fails. Parents should take child to a doctor (Pediatrician) for medical attention. Because it is medically treatable problem.
Most effective and safest is bedwetting alarm system. For children more than 7 years. This device  is a sensor containing  alarm in child´s  underpants. It wakes up the child during  bed wetting by making sound vibration or light.

So be a great parents of a child by helping in his/her  difficulties  during growing  time. A child will be always greatful to such understanding family and friends.
