Common Monsoon Diseases in Nepal
As monsoon starts in Nepal, movements of peoples in the community increases so leads to increase the cases of common prevalent diseases. Many diseases occurs during rainy season like Acute Gastroenteritis, Typhoid fever, Dengue fever , Malaria, Viral hepatitis and seasonal flu. Following are the some common monsoon diseases with features.
1. Typhoid Fever
Typhoid fever also known as Enteric fever caused by a bacteria called Salmonella typhi which found in infected person's stool.
Spread by faeco-oral route (unfiltered water, unhygienic street foods, flies, uncleaned hands, uncleaned plate and glass).Infected patients may develop: high Fever , weakness of body, loss of appetite, vomiting, constipation initially
, Fatigue, diarrhea, Headache, Rash in chest and back called rose spot, confusion in 2nd and third week of disease onset.
Prevention: Proper hand washing before eating and after coming from toilet. Intake of Filtered water, boiled water or chlorinated water daily. Avoid unhygienic food stuffs.
Investigation & Treatment:

2. Dengue Fever
Dengue Fever caused by an arbovirus called dengue virus which is transmitted by Ades mosquito (tiger mosquito) which generally bites during day time and found in artificially collected clean water in tyre, pot, plastic can,back side of refrigerator .
Infected patient may develop: High grade fever with sweating, pain in joints (bone breaking pain) loss of appetite,Headache, pain inside eyes, red rash over body, red eyes, itching in skin from 5-7th day of fever. in severe cases there will be bleeding from gum, nose, stool, urine,from skin. if fever is not controlled then patient may go to shock.
Prevention: Use mosquito net, mosquito repellents like lotion (odomos), Removal of artifical water collection around your home, school and office. Use full sleeve cloth during outing. keep environment clean and dry.

3. Viral Hepatitis
It is cause by mainly Hepatitis A and E viruses in Nepal.
Spread by faeco-oral route (unfiltered water, unhygienic street food, flies, uncleaned hands, uncleaned plate and glass).Infected patients may develop: Fever , yellow coloration of skin, sclera of eyes, Pain in the upper part of abdomen, weakness of body, loss of appetite, vomiting.
Prevention: Proper hand washing before eating and after coming from toilet. Intake of Filtered water or boiled water.
